Hi folks. If you thought our adventures had stopped you are wrong! We have arrived in San Francisco and are staying in what Len calls a palace at June and Tony Browns in San Mateo. It is a little like arriving in Paradise as it is cool here and there are lovely big green trees surrounding the house. The bougainvillea is gorgeous at the foot of their deck and they whole family has given us a royal welcome. We were fed on spare ribs, grilled to perfection with baked bread and corn on the cob, baked beans and slaw. Followed by apricot crumble and wonderful creamy icecream. June would have made us custard (Birds) but actually I preferred the icecream. It was all washed down with beer and Chardonnay and we talked into the night well past my bedtime. The two dogs (very big but very soft as well) have welcomed us with morning kisses and we are now waiting for June to come back from playing golf (she had a 6am tee off!) and then we will head for the city.
Yesterday was the hairiest drive of my life. We followed Route 49, the same one the 49ers took for the Gold Rush. It was incredible scenery as we drove along the windy mountain passes. My nerves were totally shattered however as I do not like being the passenger. When you come round a corner and there is nothing to see but blue sky and the road seems to disappear I panic because I think we are going over the edge. Len wasn't exactly Paddy Hopkirk but from my vantage point it felt like it.
We stopped unexpectedly at Coulterville(?) which is an historic mining town en route and ended up having a really great soup and sandwich. Our second stop was Jamestown which was also a quaint western town. You expected to see cowboys rising in and hitching their horses. Len spent some time in the gun shop - still fascinated by it all.
As we approached San Fran the countryside changed. Still dry of course as it doesn't rain till winter but we drove through acre after acre of orchards - nuts I understand. Traffic was fast and plentiful but we eventually made it to the San Mateo bridge which takes you across the bay almost at water level with views of SF to our right and found our way to June's.
Looking forward to a few days now in what looks like a great city.

Second time of writing as usual! All looks so brilliant - sun is shing here for the wedding too. Looknig forward to reliving it all with you when you get back. Love and purrs to all
Is the house that's split genuine or for the tourists!! You will remember this little holiday for the rest of your lives!

I would just like to thank Carolyn for giving my dad the wonderful experience that it sounds like you have both enjoyed, and to say next time can we please come with you - I promise we wont get drunk and lose the hotel key???!!!!
