Zion National Park

This has to be quick as we are paying for this transmission and I only have 15 minutes! But we have so much to update you on!
After we left Canyon de Chelly we made two stops before sundown. The first was the meteor site where a 150 foot meteor hit the earth 50,000 years ago. You might say it was just a hole in the ground but actually it we found it fascinating and spent longer there than we should have. On to Flagstaff and the Sunset Crater where volcanic activity has left a landscape that looks like someone has poured tar all over the hills. We enjoyed the drive through the National Park as well, seeing the Pueblo ruins and imagining what like must have been like back in 1100AD. It was hot all day - I mean it was hot!
We arrived in Cameron late but not too late to have a superb meal. Len opted for just soup and salad but it came with freshly baked bread and my steak was grilled to perfection. All served in an antique filled room at the Trading Post. Accommodation was luxurious with view of the Little Colorado River gorge. Super.
In the morning I dragged Len out of bed at the crack of dawn for our venture into the Grand Canyon. His words when he saw it were "Crikey" and then "This is awesome" spoken in an American accent! Then it was back to "Crikey" (About a hundred times!) It was truly breathtaking and we spent an hour or more stopping at all the look out points trying to absorb it all. It felt like we were in another world so close to God. We drove out of the Park to the Imax Theatre and watched the stomach churning movie on the history of the Canyon. Worth every penny. After that it was back through the Park to Cameron and then north towards Utah and the ion National Park (where we are now.)
We were stunned by the Vermilion Cliffs and wilted in the 105 degree temperatures. We stopped in Page for our one meal of the day at the Dennys overlooking the Dam. Now Denny's gets my vote for the friendliness and value for money and superb food. We distracted our Waiter with Len's unique accent to such an extent that he brought is 3 meals instead of 2! So we had meatloaf, and grilled ground steak and grilled shrimp and salad and 3 side dishes! All for $20. Needless to say we were too full for dessert!
It was approaching 6 when we entered Zion National Park. Len didn't think we could top the Canyon but he was blown away by the colours and sheer magnificence of the place. We spend a whole day here tomorrow and I am happy as it is my favourite National Park. - a perfect place for a honeymoon! We are at the Best Western with views of the mountains. And we have 11 days holiday left!!
